What Is Your Why? | Cobbers for Cobbers Recap

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

On Thursday, April 22, SALT hosted a tabling event for campus community members entitled "Cobbers for Cobbers." Participants interacted with our table in a very corny fashion.

To the right of our table, we had a six-foot-tall ear of corn which had the title of "What is your why?" Participants chose from an array of different reasons why donors give back to the college in the shape of kernels. Each kernel had a number on the top which corresponded with a space on the large kernel. Some of the kernels had a reason pre-written while others were blank for individual participants.

This event fits into our mission by encouraging students to become engaged alumni through donor appreciation. Typically, when donor appreciation is brought up on numerous college campuses, the same few answers are brought up as to why donors give. Our Cobbers for Cobbers event strived to show the vast array of unique reasons why donors continue to give back to Concordia.

Some of the pre-written responses were "college faculty", "once a Cobber, always a Cobber", "Cobber friendships," and "always willing to help." Some of our day-of responses that resonated most were "maize fries," "cross country," and also "alumni office staff." We were very happy to see the array of responses and how current students especially were able to resonate with certain parts of campus life.

Here were some of the responses:

To this day in our current fiscal year, the college has had over 5,375 alumni donors and over $8.3 million donated. Specifically, the Cobber Fund has had over 4,300 alumni who have donated over $2.3 million dollars directly for student scholarships. To learn more about the Cobber Fund click here.

We are so grateful for all of the wonderful donors who continue to give back to Concordia after they have completed their four years on campus.

Thank you to all who attended our event this past week and we hope to resume our event offerings this coming fall!
